Susan Scott writes the weekly “Ocean Watch” column for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and has written seven books about nature in Hawaii. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Hawai`i and is a graduate of the university’s Marine Option Program. In 2005, at 56, Susan sailed to Palmyra Atoll where she worked as a volunteer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Her book, Call Me Captain, A Memoir of a Woman at Sea, is the story of that adventure in marriage, midlife, and marine wildlife. Susan lives on Oahu with her husband Craig. www.susanscott.net
